West Maldon Community Centre

About the centre

About the hall

In 1984 the West Maldon Residents Association (WMRA) was formed and they foresaw a need for a Community centre with open space and play equipment. After many years of campaigning, and fund raising, the building of the West Maldon Community Centre was finally started in 1993 and opened in September 1994.

The WMRA became the West Maldon Community Association (WMCA) and continues to manage the centre on a voluntary basis.

In 2002 we had raised sufficient funds to build the much needed Jubilee lounge extension. During 2003 the centre was extensively refurbished throughout. Sound absorbing panels were fitted in the main hall to improve the acoustics and all the seating was replaced. The building is well maintained and regularly updated, the latest major improvement being a newly fitted kitchen in August 2009.

The centre is owned by the Maldon District Council but leased to the WMCA for a peppercorn rent. The WMCA manages and runs the centre on behalf of the local community. It is our policy to keep prices very competitive, especially for local clubs and community events.
